Music Resources for Primary Schools

Music, like drama and dance, can be a performance art. This involves learning and preparation, sometimes over a long period of time, before presenting your music to an audience. The presentation can take place before a live audience or via a recording. Studying music also involves exploring the work of others in this field, listening to the music they have produced and discovering how they created particular soundscapes.

Essential Resources currently offers a small but useful collection of resources for New Zealand primary teachers that support the teaching and learning of music. At present, that collection includes the Music and More series of three books as well as Play Me a Poem and another series of two books calledPlaying With Percussion. Keep an eye on this list as more music publications may be added in the future.
