Granny McQueen and the Popcorn Machine Cover

Granny McQueen and the Popcorn Machine

Granny McQueen and the Popcorn Machine is a picture book text with beautifully fun illustrations by Scott Pearson. Jill Eggleton writes a comical narrative of an eccentric character's love affair with popcorn.

Granny McQueen loved popcorn. She loved it so much, she bought a popcorn machine. Now she could make more popcorn when she wanted. But one day, Granny McQueen pulled the lever on her popcorn machine all the way down. Oh no, Granny McQueen what have you done?

Scott Pearson's drawings help readers to feel Granny's love for popcorn. They also contribute to children's understanding of the disastrous consequences of pulling the popcorn machine lever all the way down. The illustrations also highlight literary devices in the text. For example, where onomatopoeia is used to describe the workings of the machine: 'tick tick, clack click,' illustrations depict steam and movement, aiding reader imagination and bringing the machine's noise to life.
