Jan FordeJan Forde has been a classroom teacher for nine years (particularly for new entrants/reception) and deputy principal in a rural primary school. Using her teaching experience along with her training as a reading recovery teacher, she has developed a literacy programme that breaks down the barriers for teachers and learners. She has run many professional development sessions for colleagues, including at the New Zealand Reading Association conference in 2011. Her strategy-based spelling programme reflects her philosophies of “consistency is the key” and “don’t leave it to chance”.
