Learning Te Reo Māori: Local legends

Free lesson idea to support teaching and learning te reo Māori

From An Introduction to Te Reo Māori, the two activities in this freebie allow your students to get creative while learning te reo Māori. The first activity encourages students to investigate local Māori legends and then create their own story about a taniwha. The second activity gets students creating again - this time making their own landscape.

In both tasks, students get familiar with an array of kupu. They also encourage students to look at their local surroundings and celebrate their area.
